E. M. Purcell's Birth Card: The 9 of Hearts
The Compassionate Idealist
A birth card is a calendar coordinate for the month and day. It is not fortune-telling and does not predict a Nobel Prize.
In the record
Edward Mills Purcell (August 30, 1912 – March 7, 1997) was an American physicist who shared the 1952 Nobel Prize in Physics with Felix Bloch for his independent discovery (published 1946) of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) in liquids and in solids. The birth-card coordinate for August 30 is the 9 of Hearts — a calendar position, not a forecast of the 1952 Physics prize.

The 9 of Hearts coordinate
E. M. Purcell's birthday maps to the 9 of Hearts (The Compassionate Idealist). Card Blueprints treats that as a 365-day coordinate: solar value = 55 − (2 × month + day), and the year is unused. It is not a prediction about a Nobel Prize and not a verdict on E. M. Purcell. The card's own language, quoted as system copy rather than biography: You stay kind without picking up what is not yours.
E. M. Purcell in the public record
NMR has become widely used to study the molecular structure of pure materials and the composition of mixtures. Friends and colleagues knew him as Ed Purcell. Edward Mills Purcell was born on August 30, 1912, in Taylorville, Illinois, the son of Edward A. Purcell and Mary Elizabeth Mills. Purcell received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 1933, followed by his M.A. (1935) and his Ph.D. (1938) in Physics from Harvard University. He was a member of the Alpha Xi chapter of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity while at Purdue. After spending the years of World War II working at the MIT Radiation Laboratory on the development of microwave radar, Purcell returned to Harvard to do research. In December 1945, he discovered nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) with his colleagues Robert Pound and Henry Torrey.

Where the record meets the 7 of Clubs
A card is a calendar coordinate, not a cause. What follows sets one line of the card's own published language beside one sentence of the sourced record, paired by a documented rule. It is a resemblance offered for the reader to weigh — not a claim about E. M. Purcell, and not a forecast of a Nobel Prize.

Planetary ruling card, karma and Life Spread
Birth card from the month and day. Karma cards are fixed to the birth card. The planetary ruling card comes from the sun sign's ruling planet — the signs with two rulers carry two. The Life Spread is the birth card's fixed row of nine in the Life Spread — the cards that colour each 52-day period for life. Planetary period and long-range cards move year by year and are not shown on a static page.

Also on the record
- NMR provides scientists with an elegant and precise way of determining chemical structure and properties of materials, and is widely used in physics and chemistry.
- It also is the basis of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), one of the most important medical advances of the 20th century.
- For his discovery of NMR, Purcell shared the 1952 Nobel Prize in physics with Felix Bloch of Stanford University.
- Purcell also made contributions to astronomy as the first to detect radio emissions from neutral galactic hydrogen (the famous 21 cm line due to hyperfine splitting), affording the first views of the spiral arms of the Milky Way.

FAQ
- What is E. M. Purcell's birth card?
- The 9 of Hearts. August 30 maps to that card through the public Card Blueprints formula. The year of birth is not used.
- Does a birth card predict a Nobel Prize?
- No. These pages are coordinates, not fortune-telling. A birth card names a calendar day in a 52-card year. It does not forecast prizes, character, or fate.
- Where do E. M. Purcell's dates come from?
- Birth date 1912-08-30 is the Nobel Prize API v2.1 day-precision date, verified against Wikidata P569 (CC0, day precision, Gregorian preferred). The two sources match. Year-only Nobel dates and Nobel↔Wikidata conflicts are dropped, not guessed. Page hooks and evidence come from the Wikipedia REST summary (CC BY-SA 4.0).
