Paul Samwell-Smith's Birth Card: The Jack of Diamonds
The Successful Messenger
A birth card is a calendar coordinate for the month and day. It is not fortune-telling and does not predict a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction.
In the record
Paul Granville Samwell-Smith (born Paul Granville Smith, 8 May 1943) is an English musician and record producer. The birth-card coordinate for May 8 is the Jack of Diamonds — a calendar position, not a forecast of the 1992 Performers with The Yardbirds induction.

The Jack of Diamonds coordinate
Paul Samwell-Smith's birthday maps to the Jack of Diamonds (The Successful Messenger). Card Blueprints treats that as a 365-day coordinate: solar value = 55 − (2 × month + day), and the year is unused. It is not a prediction about a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame vote and not a verdict on Paul Samwell-Smith. The card's own language, quoted as system copy rather than biography: You try a new approach to value and you finish enough of it to know if it works.
Paul Samwell-Smith in the public record
He was a founding member and the bassist of the 1960s English rock band the Yardbirds, which launched leading guitarists Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page to fame. Paul Granville Smith was born in Brentford, west London, England on 8 May 1943. Samwell was added to his surname when his parents decided they wanted to merge both of their surnames together, so that his mother would not be known as Mrs. Smith. As a youth, Samwell-Smith attended Hampton School with Yardbirds drummer Jim McCarty. Samwell-Smith took up the bass guitar after hearing Ricky Fenson (who was also an early member of The Rolling Stones) playing the instrument. In late May 1963, he formed the Yardbirds with Keith Relf, Anthony Topham, Chris Dreja, and Jim McCarty. During this period his primary instrument was a short-scale Epiphone Rivoli bass.

Where the record meets the 5 of Hearts
A card is a calendar coordinate, not a cause. What follows sets one line of the card's own published language beside one sentence of the sourced record, paired by a documented rule. It is a resemblance offered for the reader to weigh — not a claim about Paul Samwell-Smith, and not a forecast of induction.

Planetary ruling card, karma and Life Spread
Birth card from the month and day. Karma cards are fixed to the birth card. The planetary ruling card comes from the sun sign's ruling planet — the signs with two rulers carry two. The Life Spread is the birth card's fixed row of nine in the Life Spread — the cards that colour each 52-day period for life. Planetary period and long-range cards move year by year and are not shown on a static page.
Adaptability through emotional change and transition
Samwell was added to his surname when his parents decided they wanted to merge both of their surnames together, so that his mother would not be known as Mrs. Smith.
